Tottenham registered an unwanted record in the Premier League victory after a 2-1 defeat to West Ham on Thursday as the North London side became the first team to lose five matches in the league after being 1-0 up.
Spurs last tasted a win in late October against Crystal Palace and they have, since then, failed to collect three points as Ange Postecoglou’s men's struggles for a win continue.
Tottenham lost to Chelsea, Wolves, Aston Villa and West Ham as well as a draw against Manchester City.
They also became the first-ever side to lose three consecutive matches at home despite getting an early lead.
Postecoglou’s men got an early lead courtesy of Cristian Romero’s header in the 11th minute. However, they blew the lead away and conceded two in the second half. Despite a dominant display where they kept 75% possession and had 23 shots on goal with seven on target, Spurs couldn’t go past Lukasz Fabianski.
Tottenham captain Son Heung-min opened up after the loss and said that losing five matches in a row is “unacceptable.”
“We lost the game which is unacceptable," Son told Amazon Prime. "You get the lead five times in a row and losing the game I think is unacceptable and as players we should take responsibility.
"West Ham have always been tough to play against but look we were soft. Especially in the Premier League, even if you are winning 2-0, 3-0, you don’t know what will happen in the end."
Son refused to put the loss on psychological accounts and stated that the players should take responsibility.
"Not at all. But as I said before the players should take responsibility, and the fans don’t deserve this. When you go 1-0 up early you should bring even more energy. We didn’t and that’s why we lost."
Tottenham enjoyed a brilliant start to the season where they went five points clear on top of the table after their victory at the Palace but has been struggling to do well since then and currently sit on the fifth position with 27 points.
